Join in celebrating the landmark 25th anniversary of The Driskell Center with Jubilee. A yearlong exhibition featuring more than 70 works from the Center’s historic art collection, Jubilee highlights prevalent subjects, aesthetic trends, and concerns that Black artists have engaged with from the early 20th century to the contemporary moment. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Adrienne Childs (Ph.D. '05).

On September 17th at 6:15pm, during this month’s Third Thursday, Hillyer will be presenting a panel discussion about the art of collecting. Panelists include art appraiser Steven Clay, gallerist George Hemphill, and collectors Joan Weber and Nancy Hirshbein. Panelists will share their thoughts on collecting fine art from their unique lens, moderated by Juanita Hardy, co-founder of Millennium Arts Salon.

Thursday October 1 - Saturday, October 3

Millennium Arts Salon will be featured on a panel at the Aesthetic Inheritance: Art, Archive, and African American Life Symposium, October 1–3, presented by Bowie State University, the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture, and the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum. The October 3 panel, born from a proposal by curator and collector Lauren Davidson, explores how salons have advanced African American art since before the Harlem Renaissance, with MAS as a contemporary example. Joining Lauren are an artist, a curator, and MAS co-founders.

Thursday, October 15, 5:30pm

Black Artists of DC will present the D.C. premiere of The Bigger Picture: Visions of Ben Jones, a film by Souleyman Garcia, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library's Central Library, 5th floor Auditorium. A conversation with artist Ben Jones and director Souleyman Garcia will follow the screening.
